All my life I have wanted a 1971 Chevrolet truck. When I started my search most of the trucks that I found were not factory and usually had a hefty price tag. A few years later I noticed a truck not too far from home that was exactly what I wanted. Everytime I drove past the truck I would admire it. I noticed that the truck was never be in a different part of their yard, so I knew it was not a daily driver. I kept waiting to see a forsale sign on it, but that never happened. So after awhile I decided to approach the house where the truck was stored. I asked the man who answered the door if it was his truck and he said yes. I stated that I liked the truck and was looking for a truck like it. I asked him to let me know if he ever decided to sell it, and gave him my phone number. After that, I thought that I would never hear about the truck again. But to my surprise a few weeks later he called me up, and said that he would sell the truck to me. I couldnt believe that I had asked to buy a vechicle that wasnt even for sale! I went to meet him, and we agreed on a price. I checked the truck over and was fairly happy with its condition. The trucks rear end was locked up and it had to be towed on a flat bed truck. A few weeks later I wrote him a check and he had it delivered. I am proudly the third owner of the truck to date. The previous owner bought the truck for hauling materials when he remodeled his house. After the remodeling job was complete their wasnt much use for the truck and it wasnt used. When he took it for an occasional drive, the truck developed transmission problems and he had the transmission rebuilt. After he got the truck back he took it for a drive, and suddenly the rear wheels locked up and the truck screached to a halt. The truck was then towed back to his place where it sat for several weeks. First guess was that something in the transmission fouled up and  caused the problem. To test the theory the driveshaft was disconnected and the wheels still would not budge. So the transmission was not at fault after all. The reason the rear end locked up was lack of lubrication. Evidently, the differential seal leaked fluid causing the gears to over heat and eventually break.
